Etched parts available HOB020029, SKU8020 & STUFP24101 Tamiya released their first kit of the Mercedes SLR back in late 2006 and here we see the parts revised to offer the lightweight incarnation of the McLaren built machine. One concern when we saw the original kit was the way that the silver plastic had flowed into the mould and resulted in small ridges in the middle where the plastic meets. This is still the case and some careful preparation will be needed for painting. Once that is done the kit should build well and there is a fair level of detail. One area that does cry out for etched parts is the large vent behind each wheel. Luckily the aftermarket sets address this.
