Genie Mk8 Riverside 1963 Gurney by MEA Kit 43

- built
Kit available MEA061
Joe Huffaker’s Genies were an American built alternative to the various Lotus, Cooper and other European chassis being imported by US racers in the early 60s and the Mk8 was the first to offer the option of V8 power. The car modelled had a Ford engine and was entered by Alfred Momo and Briggs Cunningham for Gurney in the LA Times GP at Riverside. There’s quite a bit of work to do on the kit castings and we’d be tempted to fill and re-drill the holes for the intake and exhaust pipes in the rear deck to centralise them. The tail on the model is also too vertical, it should slope forwards slightly and it looks like there’s enough material here to reshape this should you wish. Our hand built sample is a little rough and ready too, the intakes and exhausts being at jaunty angles and the paint finish is slightly dull, although the decals are well placed.

About MEA Kit 43

An interesting range initially specialising in 1:43 motorcycles. The nature of the subjects and the size of many of the parts mean that these are best suited to those with good eyesight! Casting quality can be variable and this combined with the size puts them firmly in the 'for the experienced modeller' category. Alongside the bikes are a number of Dakar raid subjects and early Lotus race cars, again offered as kits and hand builts. SPL series are hand built only and concentrate on very unusual race cars. Build quality is variable, basic and nowhere near the class leaders. They are usually presented in recycled Spark cases. Very interesting subject matter though. Made in France.

A dedicated team, we provide the personal touch!
