BBR
BBR - New 1:43rd Metal kit and hand-built models

BBM097

Ferrari F2001 Press launch 2001 - kit

£29.40

BBX007

Ferrari F355 Daytona 2000 #28 - built

£136.05

Representing this year's F1 challenger as first shown to the press on January 29th, this superb metal kit is the first of - we are sure - many. The casting and panel engraving are precise and the small metal and p/e parts look superb. All of the correct sponsors decals are of course included as is - while stocks last - a display box to show off your completed model. The photo here is of the car at the first GP of the year - the Australian. The built model is the stunning 355 raced in last year's Daytona 24hrs which had a giant Ferrari shield painted over the top of the car. It looks great but how it did we do not know. The model is finished to BBR usual high standards with flawless paint and superbly applied detail. Note that the car did not have its full wing fitted when we photographed it - this had been detached to enable the model to be posted.

We have reviewed various versions of the Alfa kits over the past few issues and once again can confirm this set of parts is excellent, with well cast resin body, resin and metal ancillaries and a wealth of p/e. Unfortunately, once again, the very attractive colour instructions are less than helpful. This kit offers 2 race versions, the #33 car of Hezemans and van Lennep from Jarama which is illustrated and aparently the #32 car from Zandvoort of иии. Errr, dunno, doesn't say. Come on guys, these kits deserve much better instructions. We are pleased to say after this rant that the built Panteras are absolutely superb with excellent paint finishes and carefully applied detailing. We will hopefully manage to fit a colour shot of at least one of them in our colour pages. The AMG wheel set is ideally suited to a variety of 1970's machinery with turned aluminium rims and fine p/e centres.

Marlboro decals for Ferrari F1-2000 - 1:20

£4.00

Reasonably well printed decals for die-casts and plastic kits, most of which have photographs included for decal placement. There are no instructions for either Corvette however and the photos with the Alfa decals show car #9 Modena when the decals are #10 Bartels!

We have to admit to being fans of all Group 5 cars and always look forward to new releases of these turbo-charged monsters. Using Racing 43's superb white metal kit as a base Competition 43 have modelled Hans Heyer's spectacular 1.4 litre, 490 bhp chariot from the 1981 German championship.
We cannot find any reference to how he fared but we do know that one of these Lancias won in 1980 and that Heyer was a regular works driver. The white version of the car is modelled as it ran in the first race of the season, later being painted bright blue. The instructions are adequate and the colour laser copies for the decal placement mostly show the blue car - above right - (the white car is very similar). With care these will build to look very spectacular indeed. And spectacular is the only way we can describe the Toyota kits. The subjects are once again outrageous Group 5 turbos from the German championship. Once again we cannot find any info as to what they achieved but we can tell you that the Ertl car was blue (see instruction drawing above) and the Stommelen car red, both are sponsored by Rodenstock. If they weren't already fairly wild the #68 Ertl car has an extended rear wing. The kits have superbly cast resin bodies with separate doors and front end that will require minimal clean-up. The huge quantity of very fine white metal parts is virtually flawless and includes full engine, transmission and suspension detail as well as full interior details etc, etc. Those parts that are too small to cast are included in the comprehensive p/e sheets. The well produced six page colour instructions are a little confusing in their order but give all the necessary info for building once you've worked them out.

Well printed decals most of which appear to be accurate though we did find an occasional error. Although designed for die-casts it should be possible to use the GT2 sets with Tamiya kits and the GT3R's with the recently released Gamma trans-kit. Quite what the Mercedes can be made from we're not sure as the Tamiya kit is an older spec car. With the exception of the Mercedes it is only possible to build one model per sheet. Instructions consist of rather poor black and white views of either a completed model or the real car so additional reference material such as the Le Mans annual would be very helpful.
