| It's
a bumper one! |
New
GPM web site |
|
At 32 pages - this edition of FSW is larger than usual but one section
- 'Arrivals' - is smaller. The reason for the increase in size is
simple - we publish ten times a year - many model creators like Provence
Moulage release new models twelve times a year. We therefore get a
backlog of models to review and decided this month to play 'catch-up'
and review just about everything that had arrived to make sure that
you are - as far as possible - up to date. That's why the 'Arrivals'
page is smaller than usual and why in turn there are many more pages
of reviews. And - because we stole some pages for photos of all the
24-Hours of Le Mans cars we've squeezed more new model photos on to
other pages by making them - just for this month - slightly smaller.
We hope you enjoy this bumper edition. And - within the fact that
we needed to devote many more pages to reviews this month - there
is a message for the dismal jimmies within our hobby who are fond
of saying that things are not what they were. We are receiving more
quality new kits and hand builts from more makers than ever before
and more new creators are joining the hobby than we can remember.
Our hobby is growing - that's something to shout out loud about! |
GPM's
site is the world's most visited web model venue - we're hoping that
when completed it will continue to earn that degree of popularity.
The full development will however take some months - years even -
longer because the adding of model photographs is a long and somewhat
slow process. This ongoing process will continue of course with the
site in 'live' format - please bear with us if the model photo you
want is not there to start with. We're dependent to a certain extent
on manufacturers supplying us with photos of their complete ranges
and in some cases they are having to start from scratch and photograph
everything they have made! And here's a memo to all our model manufacturer
readers. If you have not yet sent us photos of your range for the
web site please do it now. We can accept them either as photographic
prints - which we then scan - or as scanned images recorded on a CD.
If you are scanning them for us please do so at a resolution of 72dpi
That's for the web - (300 dpi for FSW!) and save them in jpg format.
And please remember to give each one the same file name as the model's
catalogue number. We can of course also accept these 'web' files within
emails but please remember to keep their volume small to speed transmission
time. |

This was 'our' car for
Le Mans 2001 - it's a Porsche 911 GT3-R which was driven by long-time
GPM supported driver Robin Donovan (see inset photo) together with
Chris McAllister and Terry Lingner. The team was put together by Spanish
Royal family member Alfonso de Orleans-Borbon and during the build
up to the race HRH Juan Carlos - King of Spain - together with the
Crown Prince - visited the team to check on progress and wish them
luck. Sponsors - apart from GPM and Provence Moulage - included FATurbo,
Hawaiian Tropic and several others. There's a colour shot (by Gordon
Dawkins - as are all our great LM shots) of the car at the top of
our cover and another on the centre pages. In the early stages the
car was doing well and had not the torrential rain - a spin and a
trip into the 'wall' - intervened a good finish would probably have
been the result. GPM's André Marot and PM's Patrick Cornu (on
the left of the shot here) were members of the team for the week and
whilst André actually decalled the full-size race car (without
Solvaset!) Patrick managed to research every car on the grid. The
result of those researches will be that PM will model every car from
the race with the first kits becoming available probably within one
month. And the 'GPM car' - the one above that carried our (your!)
hopes - is the subject of a special offer - which goes like this.
For subscribing to FSW and thus helping to sponsor this car GPM can
offer you the reward of the kit of the car at the very special price
of £20 if you order before the 31st July 2001. We don't however yet
know the delivery date but it should be quite soon......
