Another very well painted and detailed model heads Renaissances
releases this month. The steering wheel looks a little low but otherwise
this look very much like the NART entered car of Pedro Rodrigus and
Jean Behra. The excellent 257/330P kit offers either the 3rd placed
car of Surtees and Bandini or the sister works car of Parkes and Scarfiotti
that retired with oil pump failure. The Lancia base transkit includes
a very fine p/e sheet (see right) with various grilles, cockpit details
and some excellent 4 piece bonnet pins. There is also a resin spare
wheel with rubber tyre and resin rear view mirror. To get the most
from this set we recommend using with REN2493, resin rear bonnet and
the Hasegawa base kit (ref HASCR030 or HASCR031) of course! The decal
sets are superbly printed with the Porsche set offering the option
of the winning #1 car or the sister cars which followed it home for
a glorious 1-2-3 finish. The 206 Racing Team Peugeot of de Mevius
finished 2nd on the Ypres Westhoek rally and the livery is similar
to the classic Bastos cars.

Datsun 240Z Le Mans 1975 #72
|
£38.60

PM's
excellent 240Z has been re-released in limited numbers by Romu and
the kit is well cast and looks pretty accurate when compared with
the photos of the real car included with the instructions.

|
|
One minor point is that the race number illumination lights are cast
in on the right hand door but not on the left, though they can be
seen on the photos. This car finished a creditable 26th and won the
2001 to 2500 cc class driven by Haller, Schuller and Maechler. |

A
must for any Martini themed collection - we have been waiting a long
time for this kit. Finished in silver with full Martini striping,
Guidici's Callaway Corvette looks stunning.
|
 |
|
The metal castings in the kit will need a little preparation but the
kit should go together to make a great model. Decals are included
for the #3 1996 Bologna Motorshow car or as it raced and won at Magione
wearing #7. Colour photographs of the finished article will hopefully
appear soon. |

| We
still aren't quite sure how this manufacturer produces such high quality
models for the money. The built Maseratis are superbly finished with
good paint and a fine level of detail, though we do have one or two
queries on the #12 car. The placement of the number and roundel on
the nose is slightly off which may be an isolated problem with our
review sample, |

 |
| but
more noticeable is the white panel around the base of the windscreen.
The only colour photo we have is presumably pre-race (as the driver
is wearing a cloth cap!) and shows this piece as a natural leather
colour. The kits are well cast in a similar style to PM and offer
excellent value. The instructions are basic but give the main colours
so shouldn't pose a problem. Photos of the two hand-builts are included
here (above) and the other two illustrations (below) are from kits
010 (right) and 011 - the review samples of refs 008 and 009 'escaped'
before we could scan their instructions - sorry! Driver information
- The #12 Maserati was driven by Scarlati and Bonnier, the #1 Maser
was driven by Godi and Bonier. the Brands Hatch and Watkins Glen 917s
were David Piper's cars whilst the Hockenheim-Watkins Glen (ref PAL010)
machine was that of Van Lennep and Larrousse at the Glen - Hockenheim
we're not sure of. Lastly - the Kyalami 1970 car was that of Siffert
and Ahrens. |

The Bare Metal Foil Co
have been producing plain film for home decal printing for some time
now. Many modellers were however experiencing problems with certain
types of inkjet printers where the ink would not adhere to the decal
paper. This new formulation is specifically designed for use with
inkjet printers, while the old formulation is also still available
for those using laser printers or colour copiers. You will also need
Micro ScaleÃs liquid decal film to seal the print before applying
the decals. These look to be first class - well researched - new products
that should have a wide variety of uses and which will open up the
possibility of decal creation to a whole new area of computer users.

| The
paint finish is superb, the decals carefully and accurately applied
and the fine detailing very subtle. We do feel that there ought to
be callipers on the highly visible brake discs but otherwise this
is superb. This car was driven by Migault, Guitteny and 'Cocholopez'.
