Very
well cast and painted kits that look to be fairly straightforward
to build. This is borne out by the very good hand-built models that
offer excellent value. The overall shapes are good though on both
models there are one or two minor decals missing when compared to
the photos in the Le Mans bible and Porsche au Mans (though the photos
in the books aren't clear enough to see what the missing products
are!) and the i.d. lights on the 7th place finishing 907 are rather
large.
|

|
|
For absolute accuracy kit builders may wish to research the decals
further and raid their scrap boxes but whatever - these make handsome
models. Finally - one of the 907C's drivers was Siggi Brun later to
find fame as a team owner & driver in the Group C days. With co-driver
Mattli he took this 907C to a fine seventh overall. |

| We
know we say it just about every time with MRC hand-builts - but these
are beautifully finished. The Diablos in particular capture the aggression
of this outrageous machine superbly, the metallic orange colour is
particularly lurid! At first glance we thought MR had made an error
with the wheels on the Porsche as most race shots show a black five
spoked wheel, but we found a race shot of the car having a 'moment'
with the gold BBS crosswires as fitted to the model. |

|
| Once
again, well done MRC. This was one of the most outrageous developments
of the 911 ever to appear at Le Mans with Porsche's interpretation
of what was permissible within the bodywork rules taken to an extreme
few thought they would get away with. They did though and drivers
Haldi, Metge and Nierop took the car to 12th overall before it expired
after eighteen hours. This four-wheel-drive car was of course basically
a road machine - really - and a limited number with virtually the
same specification were sold to an incredulous public. |

| Obviously
intended for the Japanese home market, this well moulded kit has a
good level of interior detail and checks out well against the photos
of the full sized car on the box artwork (see right). |
 |
|
The instructions have good exploded drawings but are otherwise entirely
in Japanese. We can work out that the body need two-tone painting
red and black but the other colours for interior parts etc will have
to be guessed at. No real problem for anyone with a bit of modelling
experience and common sense. Take your time and this will make an
unusual and visually exciting addition to any saloon car collection.
PS - how do you model the 'flame out'exhaust? |

Updated to the 2001
works cars configuration, the Peugeot kit offers decal options for
the Gronholm, Auriol or Panizzi cars. An added bonus is that there
are seated driver figures included, though curiously helmet decals
are only include for Gronholm/Rautiainen and Auriol/Giraudet and not
the most exciting Panizzi crew. The Mercedes kits are superb and will
probably one day be recognised as all time classic kits. With fully
detailed interiors, removable bonnets and fully detailed engine bays
these will build to look absolutely brilliant, especially the silver
and blue 'Original Teile' cars of Tiemann and Dumbreck. The Ferrari
also features full engine detail, this time visible through the clear
rear engine cover. It almost goes without saying that all these models
capture the lines, proportions and 'feel' of the cars.

Well
moulded and reasonably well detailed, this kit leaves plenty of scope
for the super-detailers. Many of the panels are separate mouldings
including the rear body section and front access panel but there is
little in the way of detailing below these.
 |

|
| For
example at the rear there is a reasonably well detailed transmission
and suspension but no engine so the model will have to be built with
the back fixed. With some spares box raiding for a small-block Ford
V8 from one of the many American kits around this kit could be turned
into a stunner. Two sets of decal stripes are included giving great
flexibility of colour schemes though you may wish to find an alternative
for the plastic 'wire' wheels. Check out our web site under 'wheels'
scale '1:24'. |

| The very well printed decal sheet offers
two for the price of one. The superbly drawn decals for the green and white Zakspeed run car are in 1:24 for
the (now sadly deleted) Fujimi kit and in 1:43 for a die-cast. The superbly etched badge set includes various
prancing horses and a number of chassis plates in a variety of sizes. Very handy for the serious, larger scale Ferrari modeller.
