Honda 6 250cc - 1st TT 1967 - Hailwood #7

£42.00

We always look forward to receiving new ranges for review and these are no exception. We have seen 1:43 race bikes before but nothing quite like these! The subjects are two of the most famous classic race bikes of the 1960's, ridden by several of the sport's greatest riders in the toughest most dangerous road race of all, the Isle of Man TT. Each kit contains parts to build two models - one with each engine size - and include resin engine, seat, faring, mudguards, tyres and exhausts, a wealth of p/e for wheel spokes, frame details, forks etc etc, various small wires and cables, real springs and very well printed decals. The Agusta offers the 500cc Senior class winning bike of Mike 'the bike' Hailwood from the 1965 race as well as the 350cc machine of Agostini from 1964. With the Honda we are offered several options.
As well as the Hailwood's class winning #7 250 and #3 350cc bikes for the 1967 TT there are also decals for various other 250s including Jim Redman's 1965 TT class winner. These kits will make terrific projects and will hopefully be followed by many more. We wouldn't recommend these to first time builders as there are a lot of very small delicate parts and the instructions could definitely be better, experienced modelers who know the subjects should have few problems, only challenges! The builts are well finished and include hand painted figures of Hailwood. They are fitted with a rear wheel 'paddock stand' so that they can be displayed easily ( this is included in the kits too) but, be warned, they are very delicate! Please note that when you buy one of these kits you get two models in the box. When you buy one of the built models however there is one model in the box.

Reasonably well finished diecasts that will fill some of the gaps in the 2000 grid until someone is allowed to make some proper models.

Audi 200 Trans-Am 1988

£39.10

Following our review of Scala's GTAJ kits in the last issue we are pleased to report that this time the instructions do clearly show the differences between the options offered in this kit. We know these excellent sets of parts build well with their combination of resin bodies with p/e and metal ancillary parts. There are few small bubbles in our review kit but these are all on the inside so should be OK. All of the options are shown in colour on the back cover of FSW 3/2001. Like the Alfa the Audi started life as a PM bodyshell to which Scala have added their own superb white metal and etched details. All included looks great and will enable you to build one of the dramatic works cars of either Stuck, Rohrl or Haywood. The Pantera is an all Scala 43 creation and is again absolutely brilliant. The body is made of the more brittle resin used by Gaffe and Tenariv which has the advantage of giving super sharp panel lines and the disadvantage of shattering if you drop the body - so handle with care. Again the p/e and white metal ancillaries are excellent, especially the interior door trim panels and the window frames. The windows in this kit are flat sheet whereas with the other two kits vac forms are supplied for the front and rear screens and only the side windows are flat. Photos of most of these new models have appeared on the back pages of recent FSW editions.

BBR - New 1:24th hand built model

BBT005M

Ferrari 333SP 'Momo' #3 - 6th LeMans 1997

£224.50

A beautifully built and detailed model of the red and yellow car driven by Moretti, Theys and Papis to 6th overall and 3rd in class at the 24 hour classic. The model checks out well against race shots except for one niggling detail, the race number on top of the front cowl is slightly too small and should be at an angle.

Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B-Vermicino Rocca di Papa 1949 - #40 Eliseo Linuzzi

£111.25

Three superlatively built models that look and 'sit' correctly. All have excellent high gloss paint finishes and detail that is applied with care and precision. They look stunnning. The Sebring Ferrari GTO finished 28th overall and was co-driven by Cantrell, Yenko and Heuer. The very pretty yellow and red Auto Becker sponsored 360 (above right) was driven by N. Graf whilst the unusual-looking Alfa 2900B ran in an event we have never heard of and was driven by Eliseo Linuzzi. The GTO and Alfa are pictured within our colour pages.

Maserati Mistral Coupé 1964

£32.90

BBK009

Tyrrell Ford P34/2 - Japanese GP '77-Scheckter/Dep'

£44.35

Two excellent kits. The Maserati is in BBR's usual crisp style with bags of great buildable detail, lots of fine photo-etch (window frames, body furniture etc) and that detail includes such essentials as interior door panelling. It will build to look handsome. The Tyrrell is equally brilliant being a superkit with removable body panels, full suspension with real wire springs, a complete engine - i.e. everything! This models is also very finely cast in metal and has a wealth of beautiful photo-etch. This version of the P34 was the one with the white cockpit surround and First National City Traveller's Checks sponsorship. It will look brilliant.
Modeler's
Modeler's - New 1:24th resin and metal kit

MOD6604

Lancia Ferrari LC2 Le Mans 1985 Martini #4/#5

£118.90

Modeler's have captured the shape of this most beautiful GpC car superbly in crisp resin. Using the fine white metal ancillary parts, turned anodised wheels, tinted vacform and superb decals along with the clear and concise instructions a beautiful model of either of the white Martini machines can be made. These Ferrari-engined cars finished a superb 6th (#4) and 7th (#5). #4 was driven by Wollek and Nannini and #5 by Pescarolo and Baldi with Lucio Cesario the reserve driver for both.
