The kits listed here have very finely moulded resin bodies and interior detailing with precisely engraved panel lines. The well made cast metal and photo-etched parts are also of the very highest quality with very little preparation work to be done. Decals are comprehensive as are the drawn instructions. And - we know these cars build well because all are also available hand-built. Accuracy too is of a high order and we note that the shape of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 bonnet 'scallop' round the headlights appears to be more accurate than on MR's first version of that car - or maybe we're mellowing! PS - as an indication of the type of detail MR include within their kits - how's this? The side air intakes on the Lambo Diablo roadster (see drawing) have individual photo-etched frets which you fit into slots in the body air intake. The hand-built models listed above - which we'll photograph for our colour pages are all superbly made, detailed and painted and each one looks absolutely correct. The Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary model is particularly outstanding because it has opening engine panels (two) which reveal fine motor detail, an open driver's door revealing great - very realistic -interior detail and an open front hatch showing the battery and fluid reservoirs. This is a classic piece of model engineering at an affordable price. A model of the month.

Bugatti T57C 1938 Van Vooren Built

This is a very finely detailed and beautifully made miniature of the exotic-looking Saoutchik designed Van Vooren built cabriolet given by the French Government to the Shah of Persia in 1939 - see photo here. The only flaws are within the application of the chrome strips which appear to be 'Bare Metal Foil'. These` have a ripple effect where they have been pressed into place unevenly.

All three of these hand-built models are superbly finished and have clearly been built with great care. The paint finishes are flawless and have just the right depth of shine for the period, the decals are neatly applied and the p/e detailing is nigh on perfect. Even the exhausts appear to be a realistic size. And - they all look like the cars they represent! Bravo. Our photo here is of he two Sebring Ferraris - we'll picture the hand built OSCA within our colour pages. The very fine OSCA kit offers two alternates - #42 from 1956 and #46 from 1957. Both will look accurate and build easily from this fairly simple (so were the cars) but comprehensive set of parts.

Even though this maker's decal sets are invariably of very high quality, they decided recently to re-make their Focus 2000 Monte set (see penultimate item above) because they realised that the decal colours could be improved. They are and this also translates to the 2001 car set which is superb and - like the other - fits the Tamiya kit. The accessory sets listed above are all superbly engineered and made with the 1:18th scale wire wheels being particularly brilliant. They have cast and turned rims with superbly fine wire spokes which look 'real'. They will enable some 1:18th scale toys to look more like models!

Intended for use on Tamiya's excellent 911 (996) Carrera kit, this superb transkit consists of very cleanly cast resin body, interior tub, wheels, seats and rear wing, fine p/e for window frames, grilles, brakes and body fastenings, rubber tyres and, of course, decals. The instructions consist of colour laser copies of the real car and a written - in Italian only - instruction page for colours and telling you which parts are required from the donor kit using Tamiya numbers. Together with the donor kit's instructions this set should build with relative ease and look great.
