Porsche RSR/L Le Mans 1973 #46 Martini

£1680.00

This is the first Porsche model that we've brought you from Stephen Barnett and it has been well worth waiting for. Using an André-Marie Ruf kit as a basis the aggressive looking RSR/L that finished an excellent 4th overall at Le Mans has been superbly captured.
The perfectly fitting engine cover and front luggage compartments open to reveal a fully detailed flat 6 engine in the rear and at the front is the fully plumbed fuel cell, suspension bracing, wiring bundles, battery, etc. With these panels and the doors closed you wouldn't know they open, but of course open is how we, and we expect most others, would choose to display this gem. After all it's all that amazing hand made detail that takes so long to make that you are paying for! Please note that these models are built to order so expect a delay of a few months.

TOM006 Sanchez Studebaker #400 Bonneville 1961

£151.10

The Bonneville Speed Weeks throw up plenty of interesting subject matter for model manufacturers and this much modified 1953 Studebaker coupe is one such car and in 1961, driver Joe Lacosto set a new Class A record at just over 230m.p.h.
The model is well proportioned and features some fine touches such as the carefully aligned decal highlights to the many louvres that cover the body. The paint isn't perfect but having eventually found photos of the real car on the net, that wasn't either and overall Tom has done a very good job.

GAS061 Ferrari 550 Maranello Pergusa 2002 Red Bull

£146.95

Built from BBR's excellent kit this great looking model has been built to the same high standard as a BBR factory built and the presentation is also very similar. The paint is excellent with very fine metallic particles, the decals carefully applied and the p/e parts equally well done.
When we saw this model in kit form we weren't totally convinced by the colour as shown in the instructions but once on the model the Fiat Blue does look very good indeed. A very attractive model of a fantastic looking subject.

PAL014M Porsche Boxster Daytona 1999 #0

£57.40

As it says on the packaging Pallino offer 'High quality models - Low price'. There are a few compromises on some details such as the lack of a roll cage and decals for rear lights but the overall standard of finish is very good.
The windows fit well, the paint is very smooth and the various decals carefully applied. Looking back through our tear sheets and results files we don't think the car started the Daytona 24 Hours but the model checks out well against the practice photo that was in Autosport at the time. Had it started the race it would have been the first International race for a Boxster. A must for all Porsche collections..

Since the merger of PM and Starter, on the whole there has been an improvement in the quality of the built models and these certainly bear this out. The Facel Vega's 4-cylinder Facellia was not a commercial success but was a quite attractive design that aped the styling of its larger cousins. PM/Starter have done a good job of capturing the lines and the model is reasonably well detailed and features a couple of nice touches such as the off centre crease in the hood bag.
The two Le Mans cars are built from PM kits and are reasonably well finished. The decals are well applied and have been covered with a fairly heavy lacquer coat. We published a photo of the Mazda on the centre pages of the last issue but don't be put off by the reproduction. The colour is the correct mid-blue and not purple as it appeared! Likewise the Lola used in the filming of the Michel Vaillante movie also looks pretty much spot on.
Jaguar's XKR has been a very popular kit from PM and when you see it built up that's no surprise. The lacquer is again a little heavy but otherwise the model is well finished with some very fine detailing. The Facel III Cabriolet looks at first glance a little like the Mercedes SL of the 1960s, or perhaps the Mercedes stylists were inspired by this small French company. Whatever it's a very elegant machine and the pale blue paint suits it very well indeed.

The 1956 Monte winning Jaguar has prompted a serious attack of deja vu around here because we were sure we've seen this car as a hand built recently. We're not going mad, it was FSW 7/2002 and this same model was released under a different reference number!!
Another rally winner finishes off this little group, the V-6 powered Peugeot Coupe with which was driven by Nicolas and Levebvre. Typically for a Safari rally entrant there are additional lamps, guards and mudflaps, all very finely captured. All of these models offer great value and will make welcome additions to many collections.
New 1:43rd resin kit

ECH027 Frazer Nash M.Miglia Le Mans 1952 #41

£35.00

If you're still not familiar with Echoes what you can expect is a well cast and very simple resin kit. The bonnet and radiator grilles are cast separately to capture the unique features of the individual cars.
The race number decals are clearly printed and a separate paper sheet is included for the tonneau cover, dash and bonnet straps. These latter parts work reasonably well but you may wish to use aftermarket p/e bonnet straps (TMKFT015 & TMKFT016), make a real leather tonneau cover (TROSP103D) and substitute the instruments (VIR105). The standard parts build fine but the little extra effort will be worth it.
