New 1:24th resin kit
PFL2426

PFL2426PP

Maserati Tipo 151/3 Le Mans 1964 #2 - painted. Also available PFL2526M - built approx £400

£126.45

With a subject this good looking Profil 24 could never go far wrong and they haven't. The kit is well cast with minimal flash and captures the lines of the Costin drafted machine very well.
Overall the kit is very simple with just a few resin ancillaries, vac-formed windows (fitted from the outside) and clearly printed decals. The only fiddly area might be the kit form wire wheels. The finish on the painted kit isn't the best we've seen from Profil but as FSW reader Phil Kimberley so colourfully pointed out when we showed a preview photo of this model, the real car wasn't terribly well finished either so this is probably still too good! If you're going for the un-painted version preparation of the resin body will be minimal beyond a tiny amount of flash removal from the wheel arches and window frames and a quick wash to remove the release agent. The end result will be a great looking model.

Aston Martin DBR1 1957 1:24

£58.50

This is one of those subjects that should be welcomed by many collectors but it is certainly not for the beginner.
The basic shape looks pretty good and the panel engraving is neatly done but the main castings will need a fair amount of adjustment to fit. The smaller parts are better, requiring just simple clean-up, though you might wish to replace the cast metal wire wheels. These are slightly smaller than any of the sets we list (MGAC037 is the closest) and while we can't find dimensions of the real car to work the sizes out, comparing the body to other makers' models of cars from the same era we suspect this is actually 1:25th scale. The are no decals in the kit and the instructions offer hints on modelling with resin but nothing specific about assembling this kit.

Rally Mechanic and Equipment Set

£15.00

We're often asked for figures to go with Tamiya's excellent rally cars and, while there have been drivers available for some time from several makers, mechanics have always been harder to find. Not any more.
This set includes four overalled mechanics and a driver figure in a variety of poses. The driver is intended to look like Richard Burns, though there are a couple of spare heads if you don't want the ex-World Champ. The tool sprues include two trolley jacks, various hand tools and flight cases, chassis stands, brake discs, the list goes on..... There are decals for Subaru and 2002 Peugeot personnel and the instructions give tips on painting, especially faces. Great value.

Honda V5 Moto GP 02 Repsol 1:9

£20.00

This is the first of Italeri's 'bike kits that we've seen and it looks pretty good. There is a good level of detail in the pre-coloured plastic parts, well printed decals offer the choice of Valentino Rossi or Toru Ukawa's machines and the instructions are clear and comprehensive.
The first time builder would be able to avoid painting the fairings, though of course a better result would be achieved with spraying. The more experienced builder has plenty of scope for superdetailing and we feel that overall the kit offers excellent value.

The kits offer two famous races from Ferrari F1 history, the first their 100th win in the hands of Alain Prost at Paul Ricard and the second the rather controversial coming together of Prost and Senna at Suzuka.
But for small details the kits are very similar with well cast bodywork that has removable sections to reveal a finely detailed V12 engine and gearbox with turned trumpets and real springs. There's still plenty of scope for adding parts if you wish as there is no wiring included (check Detail Master on our website & Model Factory Hiro on p19 of this issue)) and the clearly printed decals have no carbon fibre (STUFP003), though they do have all the sponsorship logos.
The decal sets are all printed to the usual high standard that we expect from Studio 27, hardly surprising when they're printed by Cartograph. The Yamaha set is for Heller's 1:12th kit (which we have to admit we've not seen) and as well as the full bike livery for either Biaggi or Checa includes helmet decals. The BMW M1 sets are for the old Esci kit recently re-released by Revell and capture some of the more famous liveries seen on these magnificent machines. There are three options in the Procar set and just one each for the others. The F1 sheets also offer several options though, as is often the case with Studio 27 decal sets, a little 'real modelling' is occasionally needed. The instructions usually show when this is necessary so it shouldn't pose any problems. Like the F1 subjects, the BMW CSL is for a Tamiya base kit and offers the turbo-charged #1 works car of Peterson/Nilsson from the Silverstone 6 hours. The last decal set is for a Hasegawa kit and offers either of the pretty Shelby-run Toyotas which brought the team 2nd in the SCCA Championship. A nice touch on the instructions for this set is a full list of results for the season.
If you have an example of Tamiya's Honda RC211V V5 bike (TAM14092), detailed though it is there is always room for a little extra. The etched set includes the usual grilles and brakes along with a huge number of tiny brackets and fixings to add that little extra finesse.
The transkit contains cleanly cast resin fairings and a number of metal parts for the exhausts and various other mechanical parts to update the 2002 bike to the 2003 version. Decals are included for Rossi and Nicky Hayden.

Well sculpted and fairly well cast these will all offer a challenge to your figure painting skills. There is a little flash to remove before assembling and painting but nothing too serious and if well painted these will make excellent additions to any 1:24th Le Mans scene.
The photographers and TV crew could be used for any motorsport diorama of course...
