With
a subject this good looking Profil 24 could never go far wrong and
they haven't. The kit is well cast with minimal flash and captures
the lines of the Costin drafted machine very well.
 |
 |
| Overall
the kit is very simple with just a few resin ancillaries, vac-formed
windows (fitted from the outside) and clearly printed decals. The
only fiddly area might be the kit form wire wheels. The finish on
the painted kit isn't the best we've seen from Profil but as FSW reader
Phil Kimberley so colourfully pointed out when we showed a preview
photo of this model, the real car wasn't terribly well finished either
so this is probably still too good! If you're going for the un-painted
version preparation of the resin body will be minimal beyond a tiny
amount of flash removal from the wheel arches and window frames and
a quick wash to remove the release agent. The end result will be a
great looking model. |

This
is one of those subjects that should be welcomed by many collectors
but it is certainly not for the beginner.
|
 |
| The basic shape
looks pretty good and the panel engraving is neatly done but the main
castings will need a fair amount of adjustment to fit. The smaller
parts are better, requiring just simple clean-up, though you might
wish to replace the cast metal wire wheels. These are slightly smaller
than any of the sets we list (MGAC037
is the closest) and while we can't find dimensions of the real car
to work the sizes out, comparing the body to other makers' models
of cars from the same era we suspect this is actually 1:25th scale.
The are no decals in the kit and the instructions offer hints on modelling
with resin but nothing specific about assembling this kit. |

Rally Mechanic and Equipment Set

We're
often asked for figures to go with Tamiya's excellent rally cars and,
while there have been drivers available for some time from several
makers, mechanics have always been harder to find. Not any more.
|
 |
| This set includes
four overalled mechanics and a driver figure in a variety of poses.
The driver is intended to look like Richard Burns, though there are
a couple of spare heads if you don't want the ex-World Champ. The
tool sprues include two trolley jacks, various hand tools and flight
cases, chassis stands, brake discs, the list goes on..... There are
decals for Subaru and 2002 Peugeot personnel and the instructions
give tips on painting, especially faces. Great value. |

This
is the first of Italeri's 'bike kits that we've seen and it looks
pretty good. There is a good level of detail in the pre-coloured plastic
parts, well printed decals offer the choice of Valentino Rossi or
Toru Ukawa's machines and the instructions are clear and comprehensive.
|
 |
| The first time builder
would be able to avoid painting the fairings, though of course a better
result would be achieved with spraying. The more experienced builder
has plenty of scope for superdetailing and we feel that overall the
kit offers excellent value. |
