It's
super-detail time! The very fine engine kit builds a 1973 spec, fuel
injected 2.7 litre motor and would be ideal for either a workshop
diorama or for the more adventurous, how about detailing one of Gamma
or Racing 43's excellent kits. Intended for use with AM Ruf's kit
ref RUF040, the Ferrari trans-kit consists of white metal front chassis
insert and sundry small parts, resin door, bonnet, boot lid and engine
block and a wealth of p/e and wiring parts for final detailing. The
instructions clearly show which parts to remove from the Ruf base
kit and have exploded diagrams for the engine and most of the chassis
details.

They are
not however completely comprehensive, but we expect anyone confident
enough to tackle this kind of project should be experienced enough
a modeller to figure out the rest. |

| Originally listed
as 1985 959, the Porsche is in fact the white factory entered 961
that finished a very creditable 7th overall at Le Mans in 1986. Despite
the incorrect information on the box label the kit appears accurate
and should build superbly. The Diablo and NART Ferrari are also well
cast and accurate looking, though be careful when assembling the Ferrari.
The rollover bar should be level with the top of the windscreen, on
the built models reviewed in 5/2001 it was too low, and may need a
little modification to fit properly. The built Jota spider is beautiful
with much fine p/e detailing and a deep gloss lacquer finish. |

|
| The
silver colour really suits the aggressive lines of the car (see cover
photo) though the paint beneath the lacquer does appear a little uneven
in places. MR are not alone in having a problem here and it seems
that even the best manufacturers struggle with silver finishes. |

Apology
time. Dear SMTS, You are right, we were wrong! When we reviewed the
kit of the Cerbera road car we queried the lack of interior and whether
such a beast even exists. If you have with £160,000 burning a hole
in your pocket then you can buy one of these monsters. What you won't
get is a comfy interior or luxuries such as traction control. What
you will get is 800 horse power in a car weighing just over 1000 kg,
hmmm....
The model definitely captures the shape well and no, the wheels really don't fill the arches. SMTS seem to have managed better with the silver paint than other manufacturers reviewed in this issue though the fit of the windows could be better. The overall finish of the Ferrari is very good though again the fit of the windscreen is awful. This one appears to have slipped through SMTS quality control and we have returned it to them They assure us later deliveries will be OK and we have no reason to doubt this as the race versions of this model were superb. Photos of both models can be found within our colour pages.

Using their previous

to make the Austin version of this British icon. The kit includes
an opening bonnet and full engine detail.

 |
| As Mini
Coopers had different coloured roofs this part is moulded separately
for ease of painting. A fun kit that will look great when built. |

Three well made and detailed kits that will build well to make interesting additions to those rally collections. The Fulvia kit is metal and based on a Racing 43 kit with decals and p/e parts added by Arena. The subject is the red Grifone entered car of Pelganta that won the 2 Valli round of the Italian championship in 1974. The M1 and Stratos are both resin kits and pure Arena. The M1 is modelled as the blue car of Fritzinger from the Vorderpfalz round of the German championship and the Stratos is the very attractive Rothmans liveried car of de Bagration and Sabater from Cataunya. This was originally listed as the 1979 winner in which case it is wrong as the race number was 4 and the co-driver Llopis. We think it is the 2nd placed car from 1981. Whatever - it is very pretty and will make a lovely model.
