Georges
Pont at CCC specialises in modelling fairly obscure, usually French
subjects that are well made but by necessity fairly simple models.
The kit and built of the Voisin therefore offer a significant departure
as they are very highly detailed. The kit consists of well cast resin
main body, scuttle and nose sections with very fine white metal castings
for engine, four piece bonnet (hood) and various suspension parts.

Wheels are self assembly with brass rims, machined aluminium discs
for the rear and p/e spokes for the front and there is a wealth of
very fine p/e for the rear springs (individual leaves with proper
shackles!) dash, steering wheel centre and even the chains for operating
the rear brakes. This is all beautifully thought out and should be
a very challenging and enjoyable build project. The colour, photographic
instructions show each chassis sub-assembly in component form and
then finished, and it should all be fairly obvious to the experienced
modeller. You will have to rely on these pictures for colours as well
as no reference is given. The main body colour is a very military
looking satin dark olive. Only 26 of the built models will be made
- each identified alphabetically -and they are stunning! The paint
is flawless, the very thin pin-stripe decals accurately applied, the
fine detailing - especially on the straight-eight engine - superbly
executed and most importantly it checks out well against photos of
the real car. The car was built by Gabriel Voisinþs pioneering company
to tackle several long distance speed records and the eight cylinder
engine was made by bolting two four cylinder units together on a common
sump about five feet long! It worked with the team gaining more than
a dozen records at Montlhery throughout 1927 and early þ28. The car
was destroyed when it went over the banking after a puncture during
another attempt in July þ28, the driver survived with cracked ribs
and a damaged lung. The little Dyna Panhard looks like one of the
least suitable machines to have ever raced at Le Mans! The model looks
fairly accurate - though the front grille is possibly slightly shallow
-and is fairly well finished in an oatmeal colour with dark red wheels.
This little 600cc saloon was classified 29th and last in 1950 having
finished at an average speed of nearly 85kph (52mph)! |

Mercedes Recordwagen 1936 Open Wheels

| An extremely limited edition kit - exclusive to GPM - of the streamlined W25 Mercedes as it ran without wheel covers on the Frankfurt - Heidelberg autobahn in October 1936. Caracciola made his practice runs with the car in this configuration before the wheels were covered in for the record runs, though the wire wheels were fitted with smooth discs. Even without the extra streamlining the car was capable of well over 200 mph. The kit consists of a very well cast resin body, dashboard and radiator insert, white metal wheels, brake drums, steering wheel and ancillaries, rubber tyres and vac-formed windscreen. The decals simply include a large Mercedes star for the nose and a pair of correct (if non-PC) swastikas for the head fairing.

Both of these kits
are sub-contracted from other manufacturers. Based on an SMM kit,
the Ferrari builds Regazzoni's Argentinian pole sitter that ran with
an unusual flat airbox in practice. The resin body in the kit is rather
thin in places and will need some filling from behind but the metal
ancillary parts are well cast and the p/e very crisp. The instructions
have each part individually numbered and include colours for each
in Italian and English.
 |

|
| Please
note there are no seat belts included in the kit, which is strange
as the rest is pretty comprehensive, so you will need to raid the
spares box or use aftermarket items (SRC001A
or TMKFT038
would be suitable). The Lamborghini is based on a BBR kit with a resin
body and a mixture of white metal and p/e ancillaries. Originally
a Lamborghini factory project with finance from Mexico, the project
passed to Carlo Pattrucco's Modena Team when the Mexican backer vanished!
Larini made a strong debut for the car at Pheonix finishing an impressive
7th overall while his team mate van de Poele failed to pre-qualify.
In round three at Imola roles were reversed with Larini sitting out
and van de Poele broke down on the last lap while lying 5th, he was
classified 9th. The decals will only allow the USA cars to be built
as at Imola van de Poele had a different style of race number on his
car and there were one or two minor sponsorship changes. The instructions
clearly show the decoration with a number of colour shots but there
are no actual assembly instructions, which could make things slightly
tricky. There will be no problem with matching the main body colour
as a small bottle of paint is included. |

This
superbly decalled and detailed model of the 4th placed car from 1979
is sadly let down by a rather inconsistent paint finish and ill fitting
windows. The paint on our review sample was fine on the front and
the left side but the right rear corner is slightly orange peel surfaced!
 |

|
| Apart
from the paint and droopy vac-form, the model appears accurate with
all the correct decals etc. Madyero are usually much better than this
so we hope this is an isolated problem and may of course only affect
our sample. |

| We know nothing
about these little streamlined record cars other than they were Russian,
used sub 350cc engines and the models are well finished. The 1946
car is finished in silver and looks much like the photo of the real
car on the box except that the red star on the front should be larger.
The 1950 car is blue and has a small metal star on its nose. According
to the boxes the 1946 car did 150 kph and the 1950 version a dizzy
230kph (about 140 mph), not bad from 350cc! |
