New LSR New French kit maker

Record breaking driver and car constructor Don Vesco has just set a new outright World Land Speed Record for wheel-driven turbine automobiles - reports Ugo Fadini. His speed - set at the Bonneville World Finals - was an average over the two way runs of 458.440 m.p.h. and during the return run he blew a tyre but continued. The car - named ‘Turbinator’ - has already been modelled with an earlier livery by Fadini but will now be the subject of a new edition just as soon as the very complex decals can be afforded.
Xmas at GPM
Our mail order department will close down at 1 pm on Friday 21st December (when hopefully we will have mailed out everything we can!) and will not re-open until Wednesday 2nd January. Please give us a couple of days to open the mail, sort the faxes and warm up the computers to receive your emails, not to mention see what has arrived model-wise(!) before ringing to see if we have received your order or query . We will process everything as quickly as possible. The showroom will be open as usual to visitors on Saturdays 22nd and 29th December between 12 noon and 5 pm.

Mail order expansion
Due to the very positive response to GPM’s new website we are re-organising our working hours to give collectors a better and more efficient service.
As from 1st January 2002 we will be working most Mondays in addition to our normal Tuesday through Friday service. To cope with these increased hours we have decided to curtail our Saturday openings to the first Saturday of each month starting Saturday 5th January. The Monday following the Saturdays that we are open we will not be here - therefore the first Monday that we will be working will be Monday 14th January. Weekday visits for collection of models for those customers who are unable to make the first Saturday of each month will be possible by appointment as previously.

A new French creator of 1:43rd scale pre-painted resin kits is about to launch its first models. Titled ‘Trajectoire’ and headed up by former Provence Moulage personnel, the new company will make a broad spectrum of subjects ranging from exotic saloon racers to historic Formula One. Among the first releases are a Group 5 Toyota Celica Turbo super silhouette of 1979, the Chevrolet Lumina driven by Tom Cruise in the NASCAR based film “Days of Thunder” and the Alain Prost - John Watson Marlboro McLaren Ford DFV M30 of 1980.

1:12th 2001 World Champ

MG Models are preparing a super-detailed 1:12th kit & hand-built model of this year’s F1 World-Championship Ferrari F2001 and will further expand their big scale range with a Ferrari 250TR - the winner of le Mans in 1958. In 1:43rd scale the company will soon delight Maserati collectors with kits and hand-builts of the beautiful 4CLT-48 (pictured here) which prince Bira drove in the Swiss and San Remo GPs of 1949. This classic GP car has been little modelled in the past and it is to be hoped that MG will release other versions. The new Maserati kits will be in the ‘Model Plus’ range and have engine detail and lift-off bonnets. Also in 1:43rd the company will soon release further kits of the F1 March Alfa Romeo of 1971. In 1:24th scale MG’s next releases will be two Ferrari 375s of 1953 and 1954 and also two Ferrari 312 B3s.

The 1:43rd scale Carroll Shelby Maserati T61 Birdcage created by super-modeller Stephen Barnett (the engine above is from a similar model by Stephen) was was recently judged to be the outright winner of the ‘First Official International Competition and Census’ of Maserati Models. This prestigious event, organised by Signora Pamela Guarnieri on behalf of Maserati, was held in the Piazza Maggiore, Palazzo Re Enzo, Bologna, Italy in October. To have been judged the outright winner from many hundreds of high quality entries was a major achievement - writes Vincent McBride. Stephen’s model was awarded the Quattroutine Trophy - a large silver vase inscribed with a Maserati motif - by Sig. Antonio Ghini of Ferrari/Maserati in front of an international audience - and accepted on his behalf by Sig. Walter Gualdrini author of the book ‘Miniature Maserati’. The Maserati Club of the UK have offered Stephen their hearty congratulations to which we at FSW and GPM would like to add ours.

Slotting into place
FSW reader Max Winter is launching his own range of very different kits (what's new page 5 - review page 8). For the range titled ‘MAXi Models’ Max is creating a new style of approx. 1:32nd scale high detail models as slot cars. To enable the cars to be run as actual racers Max has had to make small compromises of configuration but this has lost little of the ‘feel’ of the full-size McLaren M6 Can-Am which is his first model.
