All of these kits are well cast and detailed, as we've come to expect from Racing 43. The subtle changes in bodywork - especially the rear wheel-arch areas - have been captured superbly, the ancillary parts are finely cast and all will look superb when built. The decals are well printed and in most of the kits there are multiple decal options. Unfortunately with the exception of RK158 and the Punto kit only one decal option is shown on the instructions. Information as to who drove with which race number and vehicle registration number is fairly easy to find which begs the question, why isn't this info on the -otherwise very helpful - instructions?

In a couple of the Quattro kits there are also minor errors on the decals, all relating to vehicle registration numbers. In RGRK158 Mikkola's Monte car should be IN-NV83, not IN-NV3 as on the decals and Blomqvist's Acropolis winning car should be IN-YD29 not IN-ND29. Blomqvist also won in Argentina in '84 with vehicle registration IN-NC59 not IN-NC89 as included in RGMR036. These are silly errors that can be rectified but if we've noticed them immediately we opened the reference books, so should the manufacturers. Come on guys, the kits are brilliant otherwise. The first three illustrations above are of the first three Quattros listed - the others are similar in overall appearance and we have not therefore illustrated them.

SCR003

Maserati 450s Zagato Le Mans 1957 #1

£49.95

A brilliant kit of one of the more unusual and - to our eyes - attractive cars to ever run at Le Mans. Southern Cross have captured the lines of this Costin designed Zagato bodied coupe superbly. The resin castings require hardly any clean-up, the ancillary parts are well thought out and the instructions are excellent.

This will be a very easy to build kit and will look fantastic when finished. We often moan about built models not being labelled but you'll have no excuses when this one is made, not only is there an etched plaque telling you who drove but this is also engraved on the chassis! An object lesson in kit making that many could learn from. One of our Models of the Month. (By the way the drivers were Moss and Schell and they retired with transmission failure after about 5 hours). Footnote - this was one of the fastest, most exciting and noisiest cars I ever saw race at Le Mans - BH.

Lotus 33 World Champion 1965 Clark 1:24 Built

£450.00

When we heard from Christian Gouel that he was launching a new range of 1:24 kits and hand-built models we were naturally very excited. For new readers unfamiliar with the name Christian Gouel, he was the original creator of the superb MCM and Top Queens ranges and these kits are made to the same very high quality. A new departure is the use of crisp Gaffe style resin for the main bodies, chassis and seats, as well as the engine in the Lotus.
The ancillary parts are a combination of virtually flash free metal castings, a large number of plated parts in the Lotus and a wealth of very fine p/e in both kits. The instructions are superb and consist of several pages of colour drawings and in-build photos with all of the parts clearly numbered. One omission however is that we are not told how to achieve the 'engine turned' finish on the p/e dashboard and bulkhead in the Bugatti. Decals are included for several different race versions in both kits. The built models are well finished and detailed, proving that these parts will go together well. They both capture the lines of the cars superbly and are presented on super realistic display bases that really bring them to life. The Bugatti is modelled as the green car of 'Williams' that won the very first Monaco Grand Prix and here we have a problem. The model has a single number on top of the tail but the photos we have found in Christian Moity's 'Grand Prix Automobile de Monaco' shows numbers on either side. We have spoken with Christian and sent him our reference material and he says he is working to correct this. The Lotus represents Clark's #5 Silverstone winner. Both hand-built models are from editions of only 30 pieces.

Ferrari F1-2000 Japan 2000 Schumie **Last Stock**

£659.95

Using Tameo's superb kit as a base, Pierre Laugier has once again created a masterpiece. Large sections of the bodywork have been re-cast in very thin resin, a fully detailed engine bay created and the whole lot finished off with great finesse. Presented in an elegant mahogany edged case, only 20 pieces of this superb high detail miniature have been created and this is the last one.
