New 1:43rd resin & metal kits & hand builts
SCA013

VW Golf Gr2 DRM 1977 #1 Kamei - kit

£42.85

SCA022

VW Golf LS Gr1 Hessen 1975 Kottulinsky - kit. Also available SCA013M & SCA022M - built

£43.15

These kits represent two very different competition variants of the same basic design. The Kamei car will probably be fairly familiar to anyone who started building plastic kits 20-odd years ago as Tamiya made it when the car was new. The basic shape is superbly captured with very well cast parts and the decals match the decoration of the real car photo included in the instructions. We think this is a press-launch shot as we can find several race references for Bernd Renneisen in race results but always with other numbers.
The other subject is the factory backed machine of Freddy Kottulinsky from the Hessen round of the German Rally Championship. We're not sure of the result but the near-standard car is very vividly decorated. This will certainly make for an interesting decalling job and like the Kamei car, there is a good level of detail.
SCA018

Peugeot 204 Gr2 1975 Putz - kit. Also available SCA018AM & SCA018BM - built

£42.85

As an ex-204 driver (you see we all have dark secrets, just don't ask Marot about Morris Marinas!) the thought of a racing version seems a little odd, but then there are plenty of fairly bland road cars that have responded well to the tuner's magic wand over the years. This little car certainly looks the part and presumably the engine received some fairly serious attention! As usual, Scala include a photo of the real thing and the model checks out well, which is what matters.
SCA090

BMW 2002 Gr5 DRM 1977 Rodenstock - kit

£43.15

SCA090MD

BMW 2002 Gr5 DRM 1977 #7 Hennige - built. Also available SCA090MA - #6 Krebs, SCA090MB - #6 Rohrl, SCA090MC - #7 Ertl & SCA090ME - #55 Rohrl

£130.00

SCA115

BMW 2002 Gr5 DRM 1977 Rodenstock - kit

£42.85

SCA115MA

BMW 2002 Gr5 DRM 1977 #6 Krebs - built. Also available SCA115MB - #7 Ertl

£130.00

At first glance these are all extremely similar, but the shapes of the two main subjects (SCA090/SCA115) are different in a number of details. SCA115 represents the Schnitzer prepared machines as they appeared in the first race of the DRM season at Zolder, where both Krebs and Ertl retired. Later in the season the cars were significantly re-worked, with a longer tail, squarer side pods and a more pronounced front oil cooler.
The well cast kits capture both early and late cars well and feature a good level of photo-etched detail. The team used reversed colour schemes for identification, Krebs and Rohrl's cars were blue on top, then yellow and red at the bottom, while Hennige and Ertl's rides were red, over yellow, over blue. Two tone painting of the red and blue will be necessary for kit builders and the yellow is a decal to cover the masking line. The decals are very clearly printed but also quite thin. On one of our builts the masking line is visible on the door so be careful. Otherwise the builts are excellent.
SCA108

Audi 80 Gr2 1000 Lakes 1979 - kit. Also available SCA108MA - built Wittmann, SCA108MB - Kottulinski & SCA108MC - Demuth

£42.85

We originally had this listed as being from the German Rally Championship. Our mistake. The three options offered in the kit are the factory entered machines of Wittman, Kottulinsky & Demuth from Finland. Again the kit checks out well with the photos in the instructions, plus a couple we've found in rally reports. The clearly printed decals include the darker shades of red in the livery but the bright red rear will need to be painted. A careful build will yield a very pretty car.

SCA156

Audi 90 GrA Sweden 1986 Eriksson - kit
Also available SCA156M - built

£43.15

This one did have four wheel drive and Mikael Ericsson used it to good effect to win Group A and finish 4th overall in the snows of Sweden. All of the livery is included on the decals this time, leaving a simple white paint finish and assembly of the well detailed parts.
SCA165

Audi Quattro Sport 1st Pikes Peak 1985 - kit. Also available SCA165M - built

£43.15

In 1985, Audi added the spectacular Pikes Peak Hillclimb to their impressive tally of victories and Michelle Mouton became the first female driver to win the event in the process. As with the other kits here, this appears to be accurate and is very well made. If you have an interest in rally cars and have never attempted a Scala kit, you're missing out!
SCA177

BMW 2002 1000 Lakes 1974 Warmbold/Todt - kit. Also available SCA177M - built

£43.15

We've seen numerous versions of the 2002 from Scala over the years and this is just as good as all that have gone before. The car itself was somewhat outclassed in World Rallying by 1974, especially by the arrival of the Stratos, but BMW went down fighting before abandoning the stages to concentrate on circuit racing.

TRO205P

Alfa Romeo 1900S Touring MM 1952 - kit

£34.85

TRO205PMA

Alfa Romeo 1900S Touring MM 1952 #425 - built

£68.50

TRO205PMB

Alfa Romeo 1900S Touring MM 1952 #449 - built. Also available TRO205PMC - built street

£68.50

The basic shape of the Touring-bodied Alfa has been fairly well observed and both of the built models that we have are nicely finished. There are some small details that don't quite match, such as oversized front indicators, undersized front spot lamp and rather thick race number decals. The first two will be easily fixed with a little spares box raiding. The two Mille Miglia cars were driven by Sanesi and Fangio and finished 18th and 22nd respectively. Also our sample kit only had decals for the Fangio car, though the Sanesi one is shown on the instructions.
TRO203P

Lancia Flavia Z Coupe 1st Alpes 1965 - kit

£34.85

TRO209P

Lancia Flavia Z Coupe Targa F. 1965 #178 - kit

£34.85

TRO209PM

Lancia Flavia Z Coupe Targa F. 1965 #178 - built

£105.40

We've already seen a few versions of the Flavia Zagato and the well proportioned parts make a couple more appearances here. Trautmann & Bouchet won the Coupe des Alpes in theirs while Crosina/Claudio Maglioli finished a creditable 19th and 4th in class (behind 3 Porsche 904s) on the very high speed Targa Florio. The built model of this car is very well finished indeed with flawless paint and very carefully applied etched detail.
New 1:43rd resin kit
EMB010

Lancia Fulvia 2C Street

£41.00

This kit is very similar in style to the road cars produced by Gamma. That means we get a very well proportioned body shell, a good level of cast detail and a wealth of photo-etch for window frames, grilles, badges and the very small parts. There are a few small bubbles in the lower edges in the main body casting and with these dealt with it will make an attractive model.
