New 1:43rd resin hand builts
NNM003

Ferrari 250LM Kyalami 1964 #1 Piper

£57.45

Another new range name enters the fray, in the now very competitive low priced hand builts. The base models are not entirely new however. Unscrew the 250LM from its display case and we see the name Tokoloshe on the baseplate. The finish of this particular model is very good with flawless red paint and well applied decals to represent the Maranello Concessionaires car loaned to Piper for the Kyalami 9 Hours, which he won. The decalling is not quite complete though and you will need to source certain small logos (VIR022).

Alfa Romeo 33TT12 Giro 1975 #518

£57.45

This model has also been seen before from the Umberto Codolo stable. The brutal looking little coupe was released under the Remember banner early in 2000. Again the paint finish is very good and the general build quality is very acceptable. There are one or two slightly distorted decals but at this price something usually has to give. .

Maserati 250F Streamliner 1956

£31.60

The ill-fated streamlined Maserati only made one appearance during the 1956 season, at Reims. Moss practiced the car but opted to race a more conventional version, leaving Taruffi to drive it the race. The model is well finished and reasonably well proportioned. The decal on the front is too straight but at this price it still offers great value.

Fiat Abarth 2000 Sport Street 1970 Red

£31.60

The shape and body finish of the Abarth are very good. It’s a shame that the wheels weren’t cleaned before painting, but as the model is screwed together from beneath it would be possible to take it apart and tidy up a few of the small details. A great starting point at the price of a kit, but without as much fun!

Lancia D20 Le Mans 1953 #63

£54.10

These factory entered Lancias are subjects that have been unavailable to collectors for some time and as such will fill gaps in many collections. The basic shape is not bad, though possibly slightly shallow in profile, and the general standard of finish is acceptable. The style of the numbers on the clearly printed decals is not quite right and at least two of the cars had clear deflectors fitted to the bonnets which are not on the models (race shots of the other cars aren’t clear enough to see this detail).

BIZ065

Cooper T39 Le Mans 1956 # 33

£30.00

The Coventry-Climax powered Cooper finished a very creditable 8th overall. The model captures the car reasonably well. At first the nose looked a little long, but we then realised that the number decal on the front is too small and the gap has been filled with a longer stripe giving this illusion.

DB Panhard HBR5 Le Mans 1956 #40

£30.00

The three Panhard powered Le Mans ‘tiddlers’ are well painted and the shapes are generally good. The badge decals on the hubcaps of the X84 are rather haphazardly applied but otherwise there’s little wrong.

Nissan Navara 4 Cab Dakar 2003 #217

£19.95

The Nissan team may not have got the press coverage in 2003 that they did this year on the Dakar but the South African built machines put in a very respectable effort. The model looks the part and has plenty of detail, though much of this, such as the rear roll-over structure and spare wheel mounting straps are very obviously plastic. Also the flags for the driver and co-driver have been transposed, de Villiers is South African and Marmon, French. Not the other way round!

Bizzarini 5300GTA Coupe Street Red 1966

£30.00

These represent what was effectively the same car at different stages in its development. The silver car appears to be the prototype, complete with rivetted bodywork and looks really striking. The lacquer coat was probably unnecessary on what we think was a bare aluminium body. By the time the car was badged as a Bizzarini it had gained one or two extra vents, different rear lights (personally I think the earlier arrangement is prettier) and bumpers.

JPS287

Delahaye 135 Cabriolet Pourtout 1948

£37.35

JPS have modelled this very elegant roadster with the roof up and have very carefully masked the hood off before painting. This leaves us with a nice smooth pale green main body finish and a satin surface on the soft top to be hand painted. The interior is cast as a tub making detail painting a little fiddly, but generally it will be a fairly simple build that will result in an attractive model of one of the few post-war Pourtout bodied road cars.
