Mitsubishi Lancer Ev7 GrN
2003 #102 Recaro |
£39.90 |

Both
of these subjects are modelled as they ran on the Rally Deutschland.
Daniel Sola drove the RACC backed machine to a class victory in the
Production Car World Championship. We can’t find a result for
this event for German Championship regular Wallenwein in the Recaro
machine but he did finish 4th in his home series. Both cars check
out well with photos livery wise, though the wheels in the kits are
different designs to pictures we have (not unusual on rally cars).
Both kits share the same basic parts with a well cast resin body
and a mix of resin and metal for the extensive ancillaries. The Sola
car will need a simple yellow paint finish with the red parts of
the livery offered on the decals. The Recaro machine is rather more
complex. The very attractive livery fades from red to blue halfway
down the car and the builder will have to do this as there is no
help on the otherwise very well printed decals. If you have the skill
with an airbrush you will be rewarded with a very striking model.

Fiat 500 Gr2 Hills 1977 #182 |

These
little modified Fiats are guaranteed to bring a smile to the face.
Both feature stand off engine covers with a detailed 2-cylinder
power plant, or should do, the main blocks were actually missing
from both of our review kits, oops! With all of the parts, they will
make attractive models. The #184 car will need a two-tone green and
red finish, with the central white stripe supplied on the decals. |

Fiat X1/9 Gr4 Geneva/Ring
1973 Filipinetti |
£39.90 |
|
We
can’t tell you what this Filipinetti entered machine achieved
but Arena’s kit captures the shape of the X1/9 very well and
it makes an attractive model. The very well printed Virages decal
sheet hints that there might well be more versions to come as there
are several extra race numbers and sponsors logos apart from the
Geneva show car and Nurburgring entry. |

Modelled
in Tenariv’s usual style, with well cast resin bodies
and fine metal ancillaries, these kits capture the Cooper-Maserati
very well. The body castings are different, with a front spoiler
on the multi-version kit, but the other parts are the same. Most
of the decal options are works cars driven by Rindt (UK & Italy),
Ickx (USA) and Scarfiotti (South Africa), while the Monaco car is
the Antique Automobiles entry of Vic Elford. |

Matra MS11/12 1970 Beltoise/Pescarolo |
£29.65 |
|
It
took us a while to find out exactly what this was! The chassis is
a Matra MS11 and the engine the V12 from the MS12. Where we were
struggling was with the events, which turn out to be hillclimbs.
The results that we have for Mont-Dore only show sports and saloon
cars for the European Championship, so we’re guessing that
the two victories offered in the kit must be from the French Championship.
We have found a picture of the Beltoise car in action and the kit
does check out, which is of course the most important issue! |

New 1:43rd metal kits |

Ferrari F2004 Australia 2004
|
£43.95 |
|
You can usually be pretty confident that the contents of a Tameo
kit will be very well made and this kit does not disappoint. The
surfaces of the many metal castings are very clean, with just a modest
amount of very soft flash to be removed from around the edges. Everything
is very well engineered and with the excellent multi-page instructions
this should be a fairly simple build resulting in a good looking
and well detailed model. |

Ferrari 312B 1st Italy 1970 |
£53.85 |
|
Over
the years there have been plenty of models of the 312B, but that
doesn’t mean that this one won’t be gratefully received
by many modellers. The basic structure is cast, so no p/e chassis
to assemble this time, but there is still plenty of detail included.
The front bulkhead area of the cockpit is etched and then the majority
of the other detail including the full engine is cast as several
small pieces. Our only gripe with these historic subjects from Tameo
is that with all this detail it would be nice if a little plug wiring
could also be included in what are excellent kits. |

New 1:43rd metal kit & transkits |
|
| |
The
first of these new transkits is intended for use with Tameo’s
BAR 001 kit TMK284. The set of parts includes a reasonably well cast
body, baseplate, front wing, barge boards, rear winglets, decals
and paint. There are also paper masks for the two tone paint finish.
The instructions are rather poor photocopies, but with a bit of common
sense and using the donor kit instructions, experienced modellers
shouldn’t have too many problems. |

McLaren MP4/5B Italy 1990
Transkit |
£47.45 |
|
These
two sets are also for Tameo kits (TMKWCT88 & TMK117 respectively).
The castings aren’t quite up to the standards of those in the
BAR and a fair amount of surface preparation will be needed to combat
the porosity present. In the MP4/4B we only get the body, paint and
one rear wing element. The MP4/5B goes a little further with the
inclusion of a front wing and a few bits of p/e along with a base
plate. Decals and instructions must be used from the donor kit. |
| |
The castings will need a little work in the Copersucar too. This
time it’s a full kit but it is rather crude. There are etched
brass parts for the wishbones and wheel centres but the rest including
trumpets and rims is cast in white metal. The decals are very clearly
printed and again there is the correct paint included. In experienced
hands this will build a fine model, it’ll just take a bit of
effort. |

| |
| We
had a whole raft of 2003 Minichamps last issue, but this one managed
to slip through. The finish is generally good and the politically
correct decalling well placed. |
