One of the originators of the resin kit business, Alezan continues to release accurate, relatively simple kits. The body shapes are, as usual, very good and there is a fair amount of interior detail. Resin rear light inserts are included for all three kits and there are also clear resin headlights in the Alfa kit. On the Maserati it is suggested that you fill the four round headlight bezels with a little clear resin to make lenses, but what’s wrong with including some proper lenses? The instructions feature a simple photocopy of the real car and are really not acceptable in this day and age, these kits deserve better attention to the smaller details.

The built models are generally well finished with good (but not perfect) paint finishes and offer great value. Curiously the resin rear lights haven’t been used on our Maserati, the lenses being painted instead, but it still looks good. On all Alezan builts the mirrors are not attached so that they don’t get damaged in transit, which would be fine if they were attached to their sprue by the mounting stalks rather than the body of the mirror, which will require touching in to match the paint. More silly details, come on Alezan.

Once again the kit releases from Tecnomodel show great accuracy of line and some very fine details. The Jaguar is cast in slightly waxy yellow resin and has the roof section cast separately.
The windscreen frame is a free standing p/e part to which clear sheet is attached. With the extreme curvature at either end of the screen we think this will be quite fiddly to assemble. If it works it will look stunning, if not....... The other etched parts are very clearly defined and the pre-formed inserts for the wheels are particularly impressive. Complete decal sheets are included for the class winning #15 car as well as the #14 and 16 sister cars and the comprehensive instructions clearly show the decoration for all. Providing the screen works, these will look stunning.
The Ferrari and Alfa kits are cast in a BBR style brittle grey resin and again the kits capture the shape of their subjects superbly. At first we couldn’t see why all three options weren’t included in one kit for the Ferrari, but closer inspection of the body castings and race photos show that the #7 car had a blister in the roof to accommodate the tall frame of Ronnie Peterson. This time a vac-form is included for the heavily curved windscreen, though flat material is used for the side and rear glass areas.

Wheels are resin castings and there is again a wealth of p/e detailing.
Flat window material is again included for the Alfa and, as with the side frames on the Ferraris, flanges are cast into the superb bodyshell for mounting the windows. Wheels are realistically coloured injection moulded plastic in this model and add to the overall high level of realism this model provides.
The built Jaguar is beautifully finished and captures its subject very well. Our only gripe is that the exhaust tail pipes would look a little better if they were hollow. Something that kit builders will be able to adjust.

New 1:24th metal kit
TMKTLK004 Ferrari F2002 France/Germany 2002 1:24

£105.15

Another very cleverly thought out kit from Tameo. The design of the body, with multi-piece underside, is very similar to the 1:43rd version, just that much bigger! The metal castings are generally very good and many of the parts that you would find as p/e in the smaller kits are now finely cast white metal.
The main body in our kit had quite a lot of porosity, especially on top of the nose, and rather a lot of excess material, all of which will need attention during clean up. None of this is a huge problem, just unusual for Tameo. Decals are included for the non-smoking French GP or the fully liveried German version and comprehensive instructions will allow either to be built with relative ease..

All previous Portal releases have been based on Racing 43 kits and the majority of these are also. That means that we get well made metal parts with plenty of ancillaries for cockpit detail and well defined wheels. The exceptions are the Citroen Saxo’s which are based on Provence Moulage’s excellent resin kit that was first seen about a year ago. All of the kits include well drawn and printed decals and the liveries chosen are all very colourful. Instructions in all feature simple but clear assembly drawings, colour suggestions (though these can be a little vague) and multi view photographs for decal placement.

We don’t know how the black Subaru finished in Sanremo but the Greek crew finished 10th on their home event and with a little spares box raiding it might be possible to make that version. Tsjeon finished 3rd on the Boucles de Spa round of the ERC but we don’t know about the pretty Fortuna Peugeot on the Mediteraneo, except that it didn’t win. Looks great anyway! The same goes for Manfred Stohl’s Toyota, no result but attractive car. Daniel Sola had an early lead in the JWRC category in his Saxo before retiring in Monaco, but he did go on to win the championship! Achim Mortl retired his Peugeot in Sanremo and while Datti’s Focus is one of the most colourful subjects here we have no result info. No info either on the final Saxo but we can tell you that the 1985 World Champion Timo Salonen finished a creditable 14th on his return to the WRC in Finland.

VHCK022M Elva-BMW Mk8s TT 1965 Amon

£117.05

Made in conjunction with the Elva owners club, this is a very limited production model of the McLaren entered machine driven by Chris Amon at Oulton Park in 1965.
Just 40 examples of this well finished miniature are being made, 20 for Elva and the other 20 to you. The model is in Axel’R’s typical, fairly simple style and features a good paint finish with carefully applied decals and details. The vac-formed headlight covers on our sample were particularly neatly applied.
