Racing 43 are providing plenty to keep even the busiest rally car modeller occupied this month. As usual from Racing 43 the kits are very cleanly cast, with just small feed tags to remove and a little surface preparation required, and capture their subjects very well.
The decals are clearly printed but in several cases it will be necessary to apply two colour paint finishes. On the Focus, in addition to white, the rear metallic blue colour will need matching to the decal sheet and the join line then covered with the Martini racing flashes. .
The Puntos are both versions of the same car and finished in a two tone white and Fiat dark blue, in fact as far as we could see the only differences on these two kits are the tyres and some of the minor decoration.
The white roof of the Xsara will also need masking from the main red body colour and careful masking will also be required for the vivid orange and white Marlboro backed Lancia.
The Focus and 2002 works 206 were winners, with the latter leading home the first 1-2-3 team finish on the WRC for 6 years. The other World Rally Cars finished in points positions and Caldani was 2nd in class on the Monte in his 206 kitcar. Andreucci won the S1600 class of the Italian championship with the Punto and Pedro Giego finished 8th on his home event in 1992.
If you’re looking to add a little detail to die-cast or plastic kits, or are looking for additional parts for dioramas then the accessory parts will prove very handy. The 1:24th wheel fans are photo-etched while all of the other parts (apart from the tyres!) are white metal.

TRO198PMC Ferrari 126C2 South Africa 1982 - built

£127.50

The flood of Ferrari 126C2’s continues. As with other versions that we’ve seen recently from Tron the basic shapes look pretty good on the easy to build kits and a modest amount of p/e detailing is included for suspension, ground-effect skirts etc.
The resin castings will need a little cleaning and on the Press/test kit careful attention will need to be paid to ensure the correct wing configurations for the version you require. The built models are generally well finished with excellent paint and some well applied fine detailing. The rear wings are neatly covered with metal foil to replicate the polished aluminium finish but searching through the kit contents we couldn’t find any., so into the spares box for some Baremetal foil (BMF).

The Alfa Romeo kit is cleanly cast in all of the visible areas, with the only bubbles hidden by the large bumper units. This is a very simple kit with much of the interior detail moulded in but no interior door panels . It will make an easy to build addition to those Alfa collections.

We can usually rely on Scala 43 for visually spectacular subjects but rarely do three such extreme and different machines arrive together. Kits of the Alfa and BMW have been reviewed previously in FSW (09/2002 & 01/2003) and both subjects have appeared as cover cars. The builds are pretty much to Scala’s usual high standards though there is the odd small paint blemish here and there.

With many manufacturers we wouldn’t comment but Scala builts are normally so good this is unusual. This doesn’t make these models any less desirable and the ultra-fine metallic finish to the Alfa is particularly impressive. At first we didn’t even realise it was metallic but catch the light at the right angle and if you’re looking closely enough it shows up. Well done folks! We don’t know what the car achieved and frankly don’t care, because it looks great! And so does the Schnitzer prepared BMW as raced by Ludwig and Ertl at Kyalami. The detailing on this model is very neatly applied and this is a must for BMW collectors either in kit or built form.
Finally we have the monstrous Audi 200 which dominated the TransAm series. On our review model there was some colour bleed through the brown stripes on one flank so for those who are waiting for the kits, be careful when applying the decoration.

BBA042M Ferrari 250GTO Gerona Rally 1967

£124.10

When we looked at the, BBR based, kit of this model in FSW 07/2002 we noted that the number plate decals were missing although they did feature on the instructions.
Well, they’ve left them off the model too. First impressions of the built model are good but look a little closer and while the paint and applied decals are good some of the p/e detailing is less so. The front and rear windscreen frames are not particularly neat and the trim around the front radiator opening is a completely different shape to the hole and not even mounted in the middle. Between them BBR and Arena could (and should) do better.

MRC108MB Lamborghini Diablo SE30 Jota ‘94 Met. violet also available MRC108MA - metallic black

£125.35

MRC146M Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 Street 2001

£125.35

Well, what can we say? Two more very accurate looking Lamborghini Diablo’s from MRC which are, as ever, beautifully finished. The detail differences large and small have been carefully observed and it is interesting to see how much Lamborghini’s flagship model has developed over the years. The paint finishes on both models are flawless and the metallic flakes on the yellow 2001 6 litre car are particularly fine.

This model was originally listed by MRC and ourselves as silver but MRC have chosen to change the colour without warning. This is not unusual and as a result we cannot always guarantee that backorders will be the same colours when they arrive. Whatever colour these models are finished in, they are always very carefully assembled and look great anyway!
