Superior Models - New 1:43rd superkit
SUP012 Lancia Stratos Monte Carlo 1976 Alitalia £148.35
In all forms of motorsport, every once in a while a machine comes along which sets a new standard that the competition are obliged to follow. This is especially true in rallying. In the 1960’s it was the Mini Cooper and for the 1970’s it was Lancia’s Ferrari engined Stratos, the first purpose built rally supercar. Although there are numerous kits available, it has been a long time since this spectacular machine has been modelled in very high detail and who better than Make Up to rectify this in their Superior range. The centre body tub has the front and rear chassis frames cast on and to this we add a fully detailed Ferrari V6 engine and suspension for the rear and detailed suspension and plumbing at the front. The very finely cast large front and rear body sections dry fit superbly, as do the doors. There is also plenty of p/e detail including engine wiring, interior details etc. 11 decal options are provided, covering 6 events and whichever is built will look splendid in its Alitalia livery. The multi page instructions are almost entirely in Japanese but do have plenty of drawings and, with the quality of the kits parts, this should build very well indeed.
Le Mans Miniatures - New 1:24th resin kits, painted kits and decals
LMM4068 Bentley EXP Speed 8 Le Mans 2002 #8 1:24 £86.05
LMM4068PP Bentley EXP Speed 8 LM02 #8 1:24 Painted £118.75
LMMDCA4068 Bentley EXP Speed 8 LM02 #8 Decals 1:24 £8.75
Le Mans Miniatures’ Bentley kit must be one of the most eagerly awaited 1:24th scale kits that we’ve had for some time. We are pleased to say that we doubt you will be disappointed! The shape looks very good and the level of detail is excellent. We would warn that you be very careful opening the box, as the lids of our review samples had been glued closed and this then trapped the p/e parts. Slide a blade along the edge to separate the lid and you won’t damage the p/e! The decals are clearly printed and there is some carbon-fibre included for the front splitter. As the doors are open and there are excellent colour photos included in the instructions, you may wish to add some more carbon from your spares stock. One detail which LMM have picked up on and we don’t recall seeing on any other modern prototype kits, is the front underbody venturi section, a nice touch. The painted kit has probably the best finish we’ve seen so far from LMM and the fine metallic finish looks to be spot on colour wise. It will be necessary to mask and paint the lower black panel on the painted kit and two-tone finish the unpainted version but a template can be made from the decal. Whether or not this area is black has been a point of discussion between us and several manufacturers which was finally resolved thanks to Gene Varnier at RTN, the team who built and run the Bentley. Apparently the sweeping silver stripe represents the swept mudguards on the original 1920’s Bentley racers and the black section beneath is to represent all of the dirt in this under arch area. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense! LMM say future pre-paints will have a two tone finish. Spare decals are available in the unlikely event of assembly problems.

Make Up Co - New 1:43rd resin and metal hand built by BBR
SUPMA017M Audi Rosemeyer 2000 £243.85
We gave you a sneak preview of the Audi Rosemeyer a couple of issues ago and the photos just don’t do it justice. The model has been built for Make Up by BBR and is, as you would expect, stunning. The satin paint finish is smooth and even and superbly represents the bare aluminium skin of this wild concept. The windows are prerfectly flush-fitting and crystal clear, giving an excellent view of the detailed interior. Whatever angle this model is viewed from it just looks right.
